PURPOSE: To reduce torque shock by allowing selecting operation of a control valve to open and shut a communication path for putting the combustion chamber in communication when the upstream/downstream differential pressure of a throttle vale becomes a level which generates a flow speed exceeding the sonic velocity.
CONSTITUTION: A rotary piston engine 1 is equipped with a pair of rotor housings 2. and working chambers 6, 6 are formed by a rotor 4. An inter- cylinder communication path 8 is furnished to put the working chambers 6 in communication and fitted with a pumping loss control valve 10 which is opened and shut by an actuator 9. The suction passage 11 is furnished with an air flow sensor 13 and a throttle valve 14. When signals from a suction air pressure sensor 21 and atmospheric pressure sensor 22 cause judgement that the current upstream/downstream differential pressure of the throttle valve 14 generates a auction flow speed exceeding the sonic velocity, an ECU 18 actuates the pumping loss control valve 10, and thereby rapid change of the filling efficiency is suppressed to reduce torque shocks.
