PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for identifying an engaged gear for a simple and inexpensive gearbox control device with high reliability.SOLUTION: The control device comprises an elongated mechanical transmission member 10 interposed between a gearbox and a control member. The transmission member 10 transmits to the gearbox commands imparted through the control member. The gear engaged by means of the gearbox is linked to the linear position of the transmission member 10. The device is provided with a position sensor 26 comprising a movable reference element 28, the movement of which is uniquely determined by the movement of a rigid end portion 14 of the transmission member 10, and a stationary detection element 30 for detecting the position of the movable reference element 28. The reference element 28 is mechanically connected to the rigid end portion 14 and spaced apart from it. The position sensor 26 is a linear position sensor 26 arranged to detect the linear position of the movable reference element 28 that is connected to the transmission member 10 parallely movably.
