Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a cooling loss while suppressing the generation of NOx.SOLUTION: When an engine is operated in a first operation region in which a load is not smaller than a prescribed value, fuel and water are injected from a fuel injection valve 11 and a water injection valve 57 at timing at which at least a part of a period of fuel injection and that of water injection are overlapped on each other so that fuel and water are unevenly distributed in a center part of a combustion chamber 10 immediately before the fuel is self-ignited. When the engine is operated in a second region in which the load is smaller than that in the first operation region, the fuel is injected from the fuel injection valve 11 at timing at which at least a part of the period of the fuel injection is included in a latter half of a compression stroke so that the fuel is unevenly distributed in the center part of the combustion chamber immediately before the self-ignition, and the water injection from the water injection valve 57 is stopped.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
