When the fuel added to the exhaust gas becomes excessive by an abnormality of the additive feed device 60, an air/fuel ratio of the exhaust gas is reduced. When the period during that the air/fuel ratio of the exhaust gas becomes a predetermined value or less by an output of an A/F sensor 4 passes through a predetermined period, ECU 2 determines that the additive feed device 60 is abnormal. When the ECU 2 detects the abnormality of the additive feed device 60, EGR gas returned to an intake side is increased by an EGR device 40 and an injection amount of the fuel from an injector 11 is reduced to restrict the operation state of the engine body 10 to the low speed/ low load state. With this, the ECU 2 turns on an alarm lamp 7 to warn the abnormality of the additive feed device 60 to a driver, and a vehicle is safely retreated.
