To detect the opening or failure of a wastegate valve (WGV) by a simple structure.
An engine 10 includes the WGV 30 for controlling supercharging pressure, and an exhaust gas temperature sensor 38 detecting exhaust gas temperature on the downstream side of the WGV 30. The exhaust gas temperature sensor 38 is arranged in a position with the detection value of the exhaust gas temperature increased according as the opening of the WGV 30 is enlarged. An ECU 50 detects the failure of the WGV 30 by comparing the detection value of the exhaust gas temperature sensor 38 with a determining value corresponding to a specific opening, with the opening of the WGV 30 controlled to the specific opening. Thereby, it is possible to easily detect the opening or the presence or absence of the failure of the WGV 30 based on the detection value of the exhaust gas temperature. Accordingly, it is possible to improve reliability while suppressing an increase in cost of a system.
