Abstract:
To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine enabling suppression of deterioration of exhaust emissions.SOLUTION: A control device for an internal combustion engine is applied to the internal combustion engine including an engine body, an upstream side catalyst and a downstream side catalyst which are provided on the upstream side and downstream side of an exhaust passage connected to the engine body, respectively and have an oxygen occlusion capacity, and a downstream side sensor provided on the downstream side of the downstream side catalyst in the exhaust passage to detect an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas, and controls the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine so as to switch the air-fuel ratio alternately between a rich air-fuel ratio smaller than a theoretical air-fuel ratio and a lean air-fuel ratio larger than the theoretical air-fuel ratio. The control device for the internal combustion engine includes: a determination section for determining whether or not an HC poisoning condition enabling HC poisoning of the downstream side catalyst is satisfied on the basis of the detected air-fuel ratio obtained by the downstream side sensor; and a control section for controlling the internal combustion engine so as to increase oxygen amount flowing into the downstream side catalyst when the determination section makes an affirmative determination, compared to when the determination section makes a negative determination.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
