To provide a control device for an outboard engine for preventing occurrence of double engagement in which a forwarding gear and a backing gear are connected to a power transmission shaft together even if an irregular state occurs at a hydraulic valve for controlling a transmission.
The present invention relates to a control device for an outboard engine provided with a transmission comprising a forwarding dog clutch enabling a forwarding gear to be connected to a power transmission shaft and a backing dog clutch enabling a backing gear to be connected to the power transmission shaft so as to transmit a power from an internal combustion engine to a propeller through either the forwarding gear or the backing gear in which when a shift lever is set at a forwarding position and a motion in a direction for preventing a connection between the forwarding dog clutch and the forwarding gear or a motion in a direction for connecting between the backing dog clutch and the backing gear is detected (times t1, t2), an operation of a backing shift actuator capable of moving the backing dog clutch so as to prevent a connection between the backing dog clutch and the backing gear is controlled (t3).
