To provide a control device for an outboard motor that comprises a transmission, reduces deceleration feeling occurring under gear change after finishing acceleration, and prevents pitching occurence due to trim-up irrespective of the specification of a ship.
In the control device for an outboard motor comprising a transmission and a trim angle adjusting mechanism, which can be installed in a ship, when a second transmission speed is selected in the transmission, the acceleration is directed by a pilot to change gears of the transmission gear range from the second speed to a first speed (time t2); after the gear is changed to the first speed, when voyage acceleration variation of the ship is converted from negative values to positive values, the trim angle adjusting mechanism is activated to start trim up (time t3); after the trim up is started, depending on the voyage acceleration variations, the speed of the trim up is changed (time t4); and after the speed of the trim up is changed, the transmission is activated at a predetermined time point to change gears from the first speed to the second speed (time t5).
