PURPOSE: To minimize occurrence of web break by specifying a means for successively monitoring a production state of paper at a wire part of a paper machine.

CONSTITUTION: This control device for a paper machine compares a change of pattern with time of a production state at present with a change of pattern with time of a production state of actual occurrence of web break at a certain sampling period by a paper machine information circuit 1, a paper machine monitoring circuit 2 and a paper machine controlling circuit 3. When similarity of the result is confirmed, change in an amount of control of the paper machine is stopped by a control output holding command.
