To provide a control device for shortening a period in which an angle of rotations of a main shaft immediately after the power activation is undetermined since the angle of rotations is not detected, for achieving excellent starting properties, and for enabling drive control in accordance with the management of the angle of rotations.
In the control device 5 for sewing machines which is equipped with a control means 28 for controlling a motor and each actuator 15, 16, 17 of the sewing machine by a main shaft rotation signal output means 21, a needle position detecting means 20 for detecting whether the needle is located above a reference position or not, a counting means 26 for counting rotation signals, a storage means 24 for storing the detected angle of the main shaft, and a main shaft rotation angle calculating means 27, the storage means stores the period in which the needle is located above the reference position in accordance with the number of output of rotation signals. When the needle position detecting means detects that the needle is located above the reference position at the power activation, the counting of the rotation signal is updated by considering the number of output of rotation signals stored in the storage means as an initial value while using the timing when the needle lowers from the reference position with the rotations of the main shaft as the trigger.
