Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fuel efficiency and emission more by improving the fuel efficiency with lean combustion and effectively performing compression self-ignition in a part of cylinders.
SOLUTION: In a special operation mode, the burned gas discharged from a preceding cylinder 2A of a pair of cylinders 2A and 2B having an exhaust/intake stroke overlapped with each other is led into the following cylinder 2B through a gas passage formed between the cylinders, and the gas discharged form the following cylinder 2B is led to an exhaust passage. In the preceding cylinder 2A, combustion is performed at a lean air-fuel ratio. In the following cylinder 2B, combustion is performed by supplying the fuel to the burned gas discharged from the preceding cylinder 2A. In a partial operation range, a second exhaust valve 32b of the preceding cylinder 2A is closed before the top dead center of the exhaust stroke by the predetermined period, and an intake valve 31 of the cylinder 2A is controlled to be overlapped with the second exhaust valve 32b. The following cylinder 2B is controlled to perform combustion with a compression self-ignition. A supercharger 27 for assisting intake in the preceding cylinder 2A is provided.
