PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of a shock due to temporary cutoff of transmission of a power during up shift by a method wherein the occurrence of up shift between two shift stages both on which power source brake is applied is previously detected and the power source is controlled such that a power source brake is gradually decreased before power transmission is cut off.
SOLUTION: From the change of an output signal from an electronic control device for shift, it is decided (S1) whether up shift occurs and it is decided (S2) whether speeds before and after shift are both a shift stage on which an engine brake is applied. When decisions at the steps S1 and S2 are both YES, a timer Tim is reset (S3) and Step 5 and following are executed. When a counting time of the timer Tim is before a lapse of a given time T2 and after a lapse of the given time T2, the opening of an electronic throttle valve is gradually controlled at S10. This constitution gradually reduces an engine brake and prevents the rapid change of a brake force occasioned by cutoff of power transmission, and relaxes the generation of a shock.
