When the driver has down-shifted an automatic transmission having a manual shifting function, an initial control (S5) of the braking force is conducted, and a braking force with good responsiveness can be given without a sense of incongruity. Even in case in addition, a shift-down is conducted due to skip shifting, the initial control (S5) is applied like at shifting down at one stage, and an incremental control (S6) of the braking force is further conducted when the operation is judged as being made in skip shifting (No at S3), so that it is possible to give a braking force corresponding to the engine brake at an early stage after the operation is started. Accordingly, even with the automatic transmission having the manual shifting function, it is possible to achieve a running feeling with good responsiveness like a manual transmission.
