The control equipment of the internal combustion engine mounted in a vehicle comprises a running condition detecting means for the internal combustion engine, a control parameter reference value fixing means for fixing the reference value of a control parameter which is employed for the control of the internal combustion engine on the basis of the detected running condition, a shaft position detecting means 46, and a brake operating condition detecting means 48. In the control equipment, when a brake is detected in an active condition is converted into a non-active condition by the brake operating condition detecting means 48, accelerating performance improving control is started in order to obtain excellent accelerating performance by correcting the control parameter reference value without increasing an engine revolution number, in the case that an accelerator opening rate is zero and a shift position is set in a travel range simultaneously.
