To provide a control method for a direct-type power converter that achieves the cost reduction of a device as a whole by eliminating an expensive exclusive motor.
The direct-type power converter directly converts an AC voltage into an AC voltage having an arbitrary magnitude and an arbitrary frequency by turning on/off a bi-directional switch without using an energy buffer. A peak value of an output phase voltage command value is limited so as to set the amplitude of a voltage between output lines to a level lower than 0.866 times an amplitude of a voltage between power-supply lines. For example, a peak-value limiting value of the output-phase voltage command value is set to a value that a maximum value of the output phase voltage command value becomes small than 0.75 times a maximum value of a power-supply-phase voltage, and a minimum value becomes larger than 0.75 times a minimum value of the power-supply-phase voltage.
