Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the travelling performance on coarse road by engaging a differential control clutch for selectively stopping differential operation of center differential gear and directly coupling the front and rear wheels selectively. CONSTITUTION:Transfer device 3 for four wheel drive is provided with center differential gear 10 for full time 4WD where rear wheel drive shaft 15 is coupled to its ring gear 14. Sun gear 13 is coupled to sleeve type intermediate shaft 16 for driving the front wheel while said shaft 16 and the front wheel drive shaft 17 are coupled through transmission means containing a chain 20. The sun gear 13 and the ring gear 14 are coupled selectively through differential control clutch 21 to be controlled through hydraulic controller 22. When travelling on coarse rod where the coarseness of pavement to be detected through coarseness sensor 36 is higher than predetermined level, a controller 35 will command the hydraulic controller 22 to produce a control signal for engaging the clutch 21.
