Right and left wiper blades 2a, 2b driven by separate motors, respectively, are reciprocated and operated so as to wipe opposingly between an upper inversion position X and a lower inversion position Y. The operation of the wiper blades 2a, 2b is controlled in accordance with blade position information prepared based on an absolute position signal outputted at a predetermined position and a relative position signal outputted in accordance with the rotation of the motors. The blade position information is reset by the absolute position signal outputted at a reset position R set between the upper inversion position X and the lower inversion position Y. The blade position information can be reset at the reset position R even if the wiper blades 2a, 2b cannot return to the lower inversion position.
