PURPOSE: To adequately save the cooling power in an air conditioner used for a vehicle, by detecting a variation rate of temperature decrease at the operation of room air conditioning refrigerating cycle and decreasing the cooling power when the variation rate is not less than a prescribed value.
CONSTITUTION: Various kinds of information signals from a room temperature sensor 21, provided in the outside of a ventilating duct 1, inner-outer air damper 2 and a blow outlet damper 8, outside air temperature sensor 22, temperature setter 23 and an opening degree sensor 24 of a damper 7 are applied to a controller 10. Then the controller 10, when a refrigeration cycle is operated, detects a variation rate of room temperature decrease from those of the above informations to make its detection or decision ineffective for prescribed length of time, when the variation rate of decrease becomes at least a prescribed level, and decrease the cooling power of the refrigeration cycle excepting said ineffective time. In this way, the cooling power of the refrigeration cycle can be adequately saved in accordance with a state of decrease of the room temperature.
