Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal transporter.SOLUTION: A control device provides a user with input of a desired direction of motion or an orientation for a transporter. The control device comprises an input part for receiving a value based on a detected orientation of a user's body as specification by the user. The user-specified input may be conveyed by the user using any of a large variety of input modalities including: ultrasonic body position sensing; foot force sensing; handlebar lean; an active handlebar; mechanical measuring of a body position; and linear slider directional input. An apparatus that may include the active handlebar is provided so that a rider positions on a vehicle in such a manner to reduce lateral instability due to lateral acceleration of the vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8B
