To provide a control system of an internal combustion engine, which performs split injection of fuel in consideration of strengthening of tumble.
The control system of the internal combustion engine is provided with an air intake valve, an injector used for cylinder injection, and a control part. The air intake valve closes after an air-intake bottom dead center, and the control part controls injection timing of the injector so that it performs first fuel injection and second fuel injection. The first fuel injection is performed before proximity to the air-intake bottom dead center, and the second fuel injection is performed for strengthening forward tumble formed by the air which has been taken into a combustion chamber through the air intake valve after the first fuel injection. The second fuel injection is performed during the time period including part of or all of the period from the point close to the air-intake bottom dead center to the point close to the timing when the air intake valve closes.
