To prevent deposits on a fuel injection valve when exhaust gas enters in controlling the fuel injection at a part of intake port.
An engine 10 is provided with intake ports 20A, 20B installed on one cylinder and the fuel injection valves 24A, 24B installed on each of intake ports 20A, 20B. An ECU 40 stops the fuel injection by stopping the opening of the intake valve 28A at one intake port 20A and injects the fuel only by the other intake port 20B by executing the fuel injection control for each port as required. In executing the fuel injection control for each port, the length of the valve overlap period is limited to prevent blow back of exhaust gas entering the intake port 20A from the intake port 20B. The injection valve 24A that injects a small amount of fuel can be prevented from being heated by the exhaust gas.
