Abstract:
PURPOSE:To perform data retrieval on a magnetic tape at a high speed by controlling a fast forward run in accordance with read data of a value expressing the distance from the beginning terminal marker of a tape written at an index part to respective data blocks. CONSTITUTION:When magnetic tape unit 1 detects beginning terminal marker BOT of magnetic tape 9, run distance measuring circuit 3 initializes counter 5. Then, data expressing distances from marker BOT written at index part IND of tape 9 to data groups DN... are read and set in register REG8. Then when a data run distance measured value passed through counter 5 agrees with the set value of register REG8, comparison control circuit 7 stops the fast forwarding of the magnetic tape. From this point, the normal reproduction state is set and the positioning of the beginnings of fixed data groups DN... and the reading of them are performed, so that the retrieval of the data file by the magnetic tape can be performed at a high speed.
