CONSTITUTION: A second computer 21 is provided between a first computer 14 and various input switch groups 17W19, and an input part 14 and an output part are separated. Thus the operation is separately processed. When a message that indicates the good status of the phototypesetting machine is sent to the computer 14 from the computer 21, the computer 14 controls a character frame fixing device 4 through a driving circuit 16 and a driving circuit 15 for a lens 5. Then the computer 14 operates a shutter 7 by giving a command to a driving circuit 12, sends a message to the computer 21, receives sending amount data, and sends a command to a control circuit 11. The contents of the present position counter 13 are utilized in the operating processes in the computers 14 and 21.
