To provide a control unit of a diesel engine capable of suppressing generation of smoke while reducing NOx by performing low-temperature combustion by a large quantity of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), and further performing a high degree of constant volume combustion which is advantageous for fuel economy.
This control unit of diesel engine comprises an EGR means 52, an EGR control means 63 adjusting the opening of the EGR valve 52 so as to have a predetermined EGR rate; a fuel injection valve 16, and a fuel injection control means 62 adjusting fuel injection quantity and fuel injection timing according to the operating state of the engine. In a predetermined low and middle load operating area, the EGR control means 63 increases the EGR rate to perform low-temperature combustion, and the fuel injection control means 62 executes a low-temperature combustion injection mode for performing split injection in the latter half of a compression stroke, and the injection quantity and injection timing of the split injection are preset so that each injected fuel burns at about the top dead center of the compression stroke.
