To provide a transdermal delivery system capable of rapidly responding to the changeable request of a patient, rapidly delivering an additional amount of drugs, and allowing the patient to control the delivery of the additional drugs in response to the request.
The present invention is directed towards methods and apparatus using controlled heat to regulate transdermal and controlled release to rapidly deliver fentanyl, other analgesics, and other substances to the patient. The invention comprises a drug beneath a patient's skin in a drug depot. A heating component is placed near the drug depot site and generates heat in and near the drug depot site. A control component connected to the heating component is used to control the magnitude and duration of heat generated by the heating component.
