To prevent a braking frictional force from becoming unstable as the result of a decrease in friction coefficient between a brake rotor and a friction member.
Determination is made as to whether or not a driver is performing a braking operation (S20), and if the braking operation is being performed, normal control is effected (S30, 190, 200). When the braking operation is not performed, the duration T1 of the non-actuated condition of a brake device is calculated (S60), and a reference value T1c is computed based on an outside air temperature Ta in a manner such that the lower the outside air temperature Ta, the smaller the reference value T1c (S70). When the duration T1 is equal to or greater than the reference value T1c (S80), the brake device is automatically actuated for a time T2 so that brake pressure attains a preset pressure Pwto. Thus, the temperature of the brake device is elevated by the heat of friction between a brake disk and a brake pad (S130-200).
