Abstract:

PURPOSE: To charge capacitors mounted on an automatic as electric power unit for starting an engine, to a necessary degree in an extremely short time.

CONSTITUTION: When a capacitor is used as power source unit for engine start, the number of capacitors is set to two; 7A and 7B. When electric charge is performed by a connection/disconnection selecting relay 9, the capacitors are connected in parallel, while on the completion of electric charge, series connection is performed. While, an engine temperature sensor 8 is installed to detect the engine temperature, and the aimed charge voltage set in a controller 5 is set to the value corresponding to the engine temperature. Through the value becomes the half of the value in the case where a single capacitor is used, the time necessary for the charge to the value is exceedingly shorter than the time in the case where the single capacitor is used. Further, since, when the engine temperature is low, the aimed electric charge voltage is low, the electric charge over necessity is obviated in comparison with the case where electric charge is carried out to the voltage for starting the engine at low temperature, independetly of the engine temperature, and also this fact contributes to the reduction of the charging time.
