This cylinder injection type engine has a catalyst 22 for purification of exhaust gas in an exhaust emission passage, an injector 11 for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber, a temperature state decision means 31 for deciding a temperature state of the catalyst 22, and a fuel injection control means 33 for controlling a fuel injection from the injector 11. When the catalyst 22 is in a non-warmed up state where the catalyst 22 has a lower temperature than its active temperature, the fuel injection control means 33 controls the injector 11 such that the injector 11 executes plural split injections as warming-up acceleration control during a compression stroke.
