PURPOSE: To provide a controller for a damper by which the amplitude of vibration of an additional mass falls within a prescribed range and the damping of a structure can be realized depending on the smooth operation of the additional mass.
CONSTITUTION: A controller for a damper comprises an actuator 3 for driving an additional mass movably disposed on a structure in its vibrating direction, a speed sensor 4 for detecting the speed of the structure 1, a displacement sensor 5 for detecting the relative displacement of the structure to the additional mass and a control law 6z for calculating and outputting a command signal to the actuator 3 based on the output signal of the speed sensor 4 and the output signal of the displacement sensor 5, and a variable gain adjusting mechanism to which the output signal and the command signal of the displacement sensor 5 are inputted and which applies a gain to the command signal so as to lower the level of the command signal when the additional mass moves toward a limit position in the vicinity of the limit position within a range of its operational limit.
