Abstract:

To form a cylinder inside flow having an optimum strength depending on an operation mode so as to improve combustion stability, a lean combustion operation limit, fuel consumption, and an exhaust characteristic in a direct gasoline-injection engine which have a premixed combustion operation mode and a laminar combustion operation mode at least and can be operated in the mode selected depending on an operating state of an engine.

A cylinder inside flow forming means 401 varies an air inflow from plural intake valve ports, which open to a combustion chamber and are formed in a cylinder head, into the combustion chamber so as to form a cylinder inside flow having a variable strength in the combustion chamber. Operation of the cylinder inside flow forming means 401 is controlled by a cylinder inside flow controlling means 75 according to an operation mode selected by an operation mode selecting means 74 depending on an operating state of an engine.
