PURPOSE: To obtain desired response effect with after-touch data representing blowing operation such as breathing pressure by making a way of generation different according to whether a musical instrument play mode selected is a wind instrument play mode when the characteristics of a musical sound are controlled from the after-touch data.

CONSTITUTION: This controller is provided with a mode selecting means 1-3 which switches and selects plural musical instrument play modes including the wind instrument play mode and a mode storage means 1-9 stored with the musical instrument play mode selected by the mode selecting means 1-3. Then a control data generating means 1-2 which controls the characteristics of the musical sound according to the received after-touch data generates the control data in different mode according to whether the selected musical instrument play mode that the mode storage means 1-9 indicates is the wind instrument play mode. Consequently, the after-touch effect that the player intends can be obtained according to a basic difference in playing method, specially, pipe playing method.
