When stopping fuel feed to the engine 2 during deceleration of a vehicle 1, an EGR device 15 is driven in a direction returning exhaust gas to the engine 2 and the exhaust gas generated by the engine 2 is returned again to an intake side of the engine 2. Then, when it is detected that a brake 7 is in a non-operated state, the EGR device 15 is driven in a direction suppressing return of the exhaust gas to the engine 2.
