PURPOSE: To suppress maximum pressure in a cylinder in a high supercharge pressure range without causing the worsening of fuel consumption and exhaust characteristics in a low supercharge pressure range, by responsively operating an injection timing main controller to an engine speed, correcting a control member of the main controller in accordance with supercharge pressure and correctively controlling injection timing.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel injection pump is formed in such a manner that a pump chamber 3 and a pump-and-distributor plunger, injection quantity control governor mechanism, etc., all not shown in the drawing, are provided in a pump housing 2, in said fuel injection pump, a variable orifice 28, equipped with a needle valve 27 constituting an injection timing correction controller, is provided in the housing 2, additionally to an overflow orifice 23 as conventionally constituted similarly by a fixed orifice. A diaphragm device 31 is connected as a supercharge pressure detecting means to the needle valve 27 through a rod 29, and supercharge pressure is introduced to a pressure chamber 34 partitioned by a diaphragm 30. In this way, injection timing can be correctively controlled in accordance with supercharge pressure.
