To provide a controller for a main shaft including an encoder which can avoid the occurrence of vibration or excessive current in the main shaft, including the encoder for detecting the position of the main shaft.
The controller for the main shaft includes a main shaft speed detection section 20 for detecting the speed of the main shaft 6 from the number of return pulses of the encoder 8 for detecting the main shaft position; a first motor speed estimating section 21 for deriving a first motor estimated speed of an induction motor 2, from a reduction ratio of the induction motor 2; motor speed control sections (11, 12, 13), including a speed control section 11 for controlling the induction motor 2 based on a speed command and on the first motor estimated speed which is obtained by the first motor speed estimating section 21; and a slip detection section 22A for detecting that slipping has occurred on a belt 5, based on the first motor estimated speed. In this case, the controller for the main shaft does not use the first motor estimation speed for control of the induction motor 2 without a speed detector, when slippage is detected in the belt 5 by the slip detecting section 22A.
