PURPOSE: To ensure both starting and stopping operations without any hindrance by installing two transmission type sensors at the specified height parallelly in the admission direction of passengers, and after detecting these passengers with one sensor at this side, when the back side sensor detects them after the specified time, starting a conveyor.

CONSTITUTION: Each sensor stand 20 is erected at both sides of this side in the admission direction of passengers at the side of a boarding port A, while each sensor stand 22 is erected at both sides of the back side, and transmission type sensors 27a, 27b are attached to these stands 20, 22 at height about passenger's shoulders. When the passing of passengers is detected by the transmission type sensor 27 at this side and the passengers are detected by the transmission type sensor 27b at the back side, a man conveyor 10 is started and these passengers are conveyed. Then, it is stopped after the elapse of the time for conveyance of more than a distance between both boarding and alighting ports. this elapse is determined by speed detection of a drive roll. Consequently, passengers are surely boarded on the man-conveyor 10 and conveyed and after alighting from it, this conveyor is surely stoppable.
