PURPOSE: To obtain a controller for permanent magnet synchronous motor in which the size, weight and cost can be reduced by lowering the withstand voltage of smoothing capacitor and switching element and lowering the cost thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The controller for permanent magnet synchronous motor subjected to field weakening control comprises a voltage regulator 104 for operating a torque command value based on a DC voltage Vdc of a smoothing capacitor 6, a command value Vdc* thereof, and a speed detection value ω, and a switching decision means 105 for detecting opening of a switching means 4 based on the DC voltage Vdc. When the decision means 105 decides that the switching means 4 is not opened, a motor 3 is controlled according to a torque command value τ0*. When a decision is made that the switching means 4 is opened, the motor 3 is driven according to a torque command value τ1* operated by the voltage regulator 104 and the DC voltage Vdc is controlled to match the command value Vdc*. When the field weakening control is not performed, the drive pulse signal for the inverter 2 is turned off.
