PURPOSE: To simplify the setting of a steering wheel into a retracted position or an operative position at the time of riding-in or getting-off , by a method wherein a one-chip microcomputer (CPU) fitted with a memory command switch is provided to enable a learning control of information on the position of a steering wheel in response to the opening and closing of a driving-seat door.
CONSTITUTION: Lifting and tilting mechanisms 36, 37 for the steering wheel 30 are connected to the output side of an electronic controller consisting of the CPU. A memory switch MS which receives an output from a position sensor for the steering wheel and generates a memory command for storing the information on the position of the steering wheel 30, photo-interrupters 63a, 63b for detecting the rotations of motors M6, M7, and switches 64, 32a, 32b, 33a, 33b, 34a, 34b opened and closed in response to the opening and closing of the driving-seat door are connected to the input side of the CPU, while transistors Qa1, Qb1, Qa2, Qb2 are connected to the output side. The transistors Qa1, Qb1 drive relays Rya1, Ryb1 to turn ON and OFF the motors M6, M7, and the transistors Qa2, Qb2 drive relays Rya2, Ryb2 to change over the polarities of power sources for the motors M6, M7, whereby the steering wheel is set into the retracted position or the operating position.
