A controller of a vehicle having a plurality of temperature detecting means for detecting temperatures of part-equipped regions calculates a deviation between two temperatures of a plurality of temperatures detected by the plurality of temperature detecting means to detect abnormalities in the plurality of temperature detecting means. In another embodiment, the average value of the plurality of temperatures detected by the plurality of temperature detecting means is calculated. The deviation between each of the temperature detected by the plurality of temperature detecting means and the average value is calculated. Based on the calculated deviation, the abnormalities of the plurality of temperature detecting means are detected. The calculation of the deviation is preferably performed when an internal combustion engine stops and then restarts and a prescribed time is decided to have elapsed from the stop.
