To not only miniaturize and silence a pump motor but also miniaturize an inverter device and lower its price, to perform self diagnosing by an inexpensive means and to facilitate repairs and exchange in the controller of a washing machine for driving the pump motor by an inverter circuit.
The DC power of a rectifier circuit 3 connected to an AC power source 1 is converted to AC power by the inverter circuit 4, water is supplied to a washing tub by a water supply valve 7 and a pump motor 11 for driving a pump for supplying the water to the washing tub is driven by the inverter circuit 4. The inverter circuit 4 and the water supply valve are controlled by a control means 13 and it is judged that the system is abnormal in the case that the rotation speed of the pump motor 11 does not reach a set rotation speed while driving the pump motor 11.
