Abstract:
To provide a method for controlling freeze-drying and reconstitution of a hydrogel comprising nanoscale cellulose.SOLUTION: The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling freeze-drying of a hydrogel, where the method comprises adjusting the residual water content of the freeze-dried hydrogel. The method comprises adding a biomolecule to the hydrogel before freeze-drying the hydrogel, and/or optimizing the freeze-drying cycle, e.g., by taking into account Tg' (glass transition temperature of a maximally freeze-concentrated sample) of the mixture comprising the hydrogel and the biomolecule. The present disclosure further provides the use of a freeze-dried hydrogel composition for cell culture, a cell-culturing scaffold, and a method for manufacturing a reconstituted hydrogel.SELECTED DRAWING: None
