To provide a controlling method for an air conditioner which prevents an electrical power consumption of the air conditioner caused by an operation of a heater.
A controlling method for an air conditioner comprises the step of confirming a driving condition for checking whether or not at least one of a desired discharging temperature of air discharged from an air conditioning system and a desired evaporator temperature of the evaporator that is a temperature of the evaporator fulfills a heater driving condition so as to keep an indoor temperature of a vehicle at the desired temperature; the step of controlling the heater driving in response to the temperature of the vehicle and its running condition so as to output the desired discharging temperature if the heater driving conditions is fulfilled; and the step of confirming a heater cut-off state for cutting off the driving operation of the heater either if the heater discharging temperature of air discharged from the heater is more than a reference temperature or if the heater discharging temperature is higher than the desired discharging temperature by a specified temperature when the heater operation is performed.
