To contract a total charging time relative to all batteries charged through a low- capacity power supply, by performing in succession the changeovers every group comprising a plurality of batteries or a single battery to charge each group until its charging current is reduced to a not larger current value than a current value preset to be larger than its charge completing current value, and thereafter, by connecting all the batteries in parallel with each other to charge fully them.
A controlling device 1 for a plurality of battery chargers is provided with a voltage and current adjusting portion 4, a changeover device 5, a voltage and current sensing portion 7 and a control portion 8. First, changing over in succession respective contacts X1-Xn of the changeover device 5 to close each of them, pre-chargings are performed every battery charger of a charger 9 until the charging current of each battery charger is reduced to a not larger current value than a current value preset to be somewhat larger than its charge completing current value. Then, connecting all the battery chargers of the charger 9 in parallel with each other by closing all the contacts X1-Xn of the changeover device 5, post-chargings are performed until a total charging current is reduced to a not larger current value than a total-charge completing current value. Thereby, even in the place wherein only a low-capacity power supply equipment can be utilized, a total charging time relative to all the battery chargers can be contracted.
