PURPOSE: To hold coating uniformly for a long period by preventing coating at dirty places before a drum is cleaned, by starting the coating of a drum coating agent where the drum passes by a cleaning device.

CONSTITUTION: The drum-coating-agent intermittent coating device 9 of a photosensitive drum 1 is arranged on the downstream side of a cleaning device 8 in the turning direction of the drum 1 and adjusted intermittently to a separate position and a contact position under the on-off control of a solenoid. When a copying start switch is turned on, a control circuit brings a cleaning blade 13 into contact with the drum 1 at a position 201 before starting the rotations of the drum 1; and it permits the intermittent coating device 9 to start application of the drum coating agent when the drum 1 rotates and the position 201 goes beyond the rear end 203 of a drum-coating-agent coating position 202. Therefore, a dirty part before being cleaned is never coated with the agent, so uniform coating is achieved.
