PURPOSE: To isomerize xylenes and to remove ethyl from ethylbenzene, by using a mixed catalyst obtained by treating a specific crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite and mordenite type zeolite under specified conditions respectively, followed by mixing them physically.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite obtained by reacting an aqeuous reactive mixture comprising a Si source, an Al source, an alkali source, and A (A is an aliphatic carboxylic acid), having molar ratios of SiO2/Al2O3 of 5W500, H2O/SiO2 of 5W100, OH-/SiO2 of 0.01W1.0, and A/Al2O3 of 0.1W200 until a crystal is formed, and (B) mordenite type zeolite are molded into granules respectively, treated with a solution containing an acid and/or ammonium salt compound, hydrogen ion and/or ammonium ion are introduced into each of the zeolite, and they are calcined. The titled compound is converted into the desired compound efficiently in the presence of hydrogen using the catalyst prepared by blending physically the granular zeolite.
