PURPOSE: To save labor and to enhance conveying efficiency in an article conveying equipment in a multi-story building like a hospital by constituting the conveying system in such a manner that a wagon is mounted on a self-traveling carriage with a lifting equipment and the carriage can ascend/descend in the vertical direction to reach any story.

CONSTITUTION: Articles are placed on a wagon 2, which is set later on a conveying equipment 13. The destination of the wagon 2 is input into the destination-setting-device provided on the wagon 2, and an operator operates the control panel. With this, lifts 12 and 13 ascend, move horizontally, stop at the designated position, and descend to wait for a next action. Next, a self-traveling carriage 4 starts moving from a cage 7 and enters underneath the wagon 2. Then, the wagon 2 is lifted by a lifting equipment 6. After this, the carriage 4 goes back into the cage 7. Next, the cage 7 is conveyed by a rope 8 to the designated story, where the wagon 2 is conveyed by means of the self-traveling carriage 4 and further put down by means of the lift 4. With this constitution, both labor saving and enhancement of the conveying efficiency can be achieved.
