PURPOSE: To prevent the clogging of recording paper on the route of conveyance thereof by a method wherein the backward feeding of the paper after cutting is held in stand-by state until the next recording is started.

CONSTITUTION: On the occasion of a recording process, a step motor 8 is made to drive backward to feed recording paper 1 in the backward direction until the end portion thereof reaches a recording position of a recording unit 4. When the end portion reaches the recording position, the feeding is stopped, and then the recording unit 4 is driven to record data for one line. Next, the step motor 8 is made to drive in the forward direction of normal rotation to feed the recording paper 1 for one line in the direction of forward feeding. Thereafter it is determined whether the recording of one page of recording data or the whole thereof is ended or not, and when it is ended, the recording paper 1 is fed until the rear end of one page thereof or the rear end of a recorded part reaches the cutting position of a cutter 5. Although the shape of the recording paper 1 is changed between a roll and the recording unit 4 by the backward feeding after the paper is held in readiness, no uncorrectable deformation occurs, since a time in which the shape of the paper is changed is very short.
