Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving yield in kraft pulp manufacturing from a cellulose comprising broadleaf tree chips, and further to provide an apparatus therefor.
SOLUTION: The yield can be improved by at least 1-2% especially when a broadleaf tree chip is treated by keeping the temperature and the effective alkali(EA) low when carrying out the permeation, and further keeping the EA low at least in the first cooking step 12 in the kraft cellulose pulping process. The pulp is cooled 16 with a low EA liquid after the cooking. For instance, the temperature is lowered to ≤120°C (preferably ≤100°C). The EA is regulated so as to be less than about 5 g/L (represented as NaOH). Desirably the chip is continuously treated by a continuous cooking vessel. The concentration of the EA is regulated so as to be less than about 20 g/L in the permeation and the first cooking.
