To provide an air/water cooled cooling tower which reduces a set-up space, reduces consuming quantity of cooling water and power consumption, and can raise cooling effect even in the case where the outdoor temperature is high in summer.
The cooling tower is constituted with a blower 8, a water spray tank 11, a wet type heat exchanger 5, a lower water tank 10, a spraying water circulating pump 13 and the like. Process water returned from a loaded side is directed to the heat exchanger 4. Cooling is effected with spraying of water to the heat exchanger 4, and the sucked outdoor air. The tank 11 is provided with a partitioning plate 15. A water spray piping 12 is arranged so that spraying water is supplied only to an air sucking side 11A of the tank 11 which is defined by the plate 15. Thus, a wet part 4A and a dry part 4B are established in the heat exchanger 4.
