Title:
COOLING BODY FOR PRODUCTION ON THIN METALLIC STRIP SOLIDIFIED BY QUICK COOLING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS58119441
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a thin strip solidified from molten metal having high strength, high heat conductivity and excellent strippig property of the thin strip by providing coating layers of a composite material consisting of a copper material reinforced with carbon fibers, etc. on the surfaces of cooling bodies which solidify molten metal by cooling.

CONSTITUTION: Molten metal is ejected from an ejecting nozzle 2 provided to a vessel 1 for molten metal onto the cooling surfaces formed of twin rolls 3, 3', and is solidified by quick cooling to form a thin strip 4 which detaches from the outside circumferential surfaces of the rolls 3, 3'. Coating layers 5, 5' of a composite material consisting of carbon fibers or graphite fibers or their mixture as a reinforcing material and copper or a copper alloy as a matrix are provided on the surfaces of the rolls 3, 3' in contact with the molten metal and the solidified thin strip. The layers 5, 5' are adhered to the surfaces of the rolls 3, 3' by using adhesive agents, etc. having good heat resistance and heat conductivity. A large amt. of the uniform strips are produced at a high speed by such cooling bodies.
