PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of a combustible component in the vicinity of a feed opening in a prechamber and to prevent explosion, by introducing compressed air from the circumference of the coke feed opening to the prechamber for only a given time before the cover of the coke feed opening is opened.
CONSTITUTION: The circumference of a coke feed opening 2 of a main body 1 of cooling column is equipped with an air blow nozzle 11 having the tip connected to a prechamber 3 of the main body 1 of cooling column and a feed system 12 of compression air is connected to the tip of the blow nozzle 11. Further, a valve 13 which is kept open for a given time and sends compression air to the air blow nozzle before a cover of the feed opening is opened is set in the feed system 12. Then, before the cover of the coke feed opening is opened, compressed air is introduced from the circumference of the coke feed opening 2 to the prechamber 3 for only a given time and the amount of a combustible component in the vicinity of the coke feed opening 2 in the prechamber is reduced to prevent explosion phenomena.
